Acting is Believing in the Magic
Acting is believing in the magic of the moment, the moments that cause the audience to suspend belief and accept that what you are doing and what you are saying is real. This is the same audience who just parked their car, walked to the theater from a restaurant, bought a ticket and sat down in a theater seat (or are relaxing in their living rooms). At their best, actors cause the audience to forget where they are, who they are and what they are doing. They cause the audience to suspend belief and allow themselves to be pulled into the magic of the moment, to shed a tear, laugh from deep down or feel sympathy, empathy or fear. That is the power of acting; the power of the performance at its best. That is the moment that every actor strives for, hopes for and works for – to share that moment with the audience when the moment becomes real, becomes honest, becomes magic.
